Children’s Playroom

Four Boys

The Children’s Playroom provides a warm, supportive, and respectful environment, where parents are assisted to create and experience shared positive emotions with each of their children, and children are supported to improve peer relationships, regulate emotional outbursts, and express their needs and emotions appropriately.

Children are invited to:

Baby and Tree

In any activity they choose, children are assisted to negotiate the strains and conflicts that arise in ordinary peer interactions. Children using the Playroom develop a sense of being seen and understood. When children become confused, upset, or disruptive, the Playroom staff help them to manage their feelings, interrupt disruptive behavior, and rejoin their peers in playing and learning.

Parents and caregivers are welcome to use the Playroom in a variety of ways. They may choose to stay and play with their children, to participate in an art project or playgroup, or simply to observe and have a sense of belonging. Parents and caregivers may leave the Playroom for a break, counseling or to visit with other parents in the building.
